Job Description:

At Insmed, every moment and every patient counts — and so does every person who joins in. As a global biopharmaceutical company dedicated to transforming the lives of patients with serious and rare diseases, you’ll be part of a community that prioritizes the human experience, celebrates curiosity, and values every person’s contributions to meaningful progress. That commitment has earned us recognition as Science magazine’s No. 1 Top Employer for five consecutive years, certification as a Great Place to Work® in the U.S., and a place on The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list in the UK. For patients, for each other, and for the future of science, we’re in. Are you? About the Role: We are seeking a Senior Scientist in Compound Profiling to join our evolving drug discovery team at Insmed Cambridge. This is an exciting, lab-based opportunity for an innovative and motivated assay scientist with deep expertise in pre-clinical drug discovery, assay development, and compound profiling. You will take ownership of experimental design and data generation, applying a rigorous, methodical approach to develop novel assays to deliver high-quality, reproducible compound profiling data that informs project progression. You will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams across Chemistry, DMPK, Target Discovery, Compound Management, Bioinformatics, and Data Management to advance discovery programs and translate new biological insights into small-molecule and oligonucleotide therapeutics. What You'll Do: Implementation of Screening Cascades: Collaboratively design, implement, and interpret assays for in vitro screening cascades to advance drug discovery programs. Apply strong pharmacology expertise to guide assay design and data interpretation, informing structure-activity relationships, target engagement, mechanism of action, and target druggability. Perform hands-on development, optimisation, validation, and troubleshooting of biochemical, target engagement, mechanism-of-action, and biomarker assays, with biophysical approaches considered a desirable area of expertise. Generate robust, decision-enabling data to characterise novel small molecule and oligonucleotide therapeutics through internal teams and CRO partnerships. Team Working: Contribute to a high performing compound profiling team, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative culture within the laboratory and across internal and external partnerships. Contribute to the establishment of, and participation in efficient DMTA cycles, working with project teams to support informed compound progression. Support and mentor junior scientists, promoting development and knowledge-sharing; and work effectively across different functions within a multidisciplinary research environment. Enhancement of Experimental and Technical Capabilities: Continuously enhance in-house experimental capabilities by proactively identifying and adopting emerging technologies and methodologies. Contribute to further strengthening our research infrastructure and technological platforms, supporting innovation and long-term project successes. Literature and Research Appraisal: Perform in-depth reviews and critical appraisal of scientific literature and internal data to inform assay strategy. Work closely with project teams to evaluate novel targets, assess druggability, and design bespoke, innovative assays that directly underpin drug discovery and screening cascades. Data Presentation and Collaboration: Present high-quality data at Project and Biology meetings to support informed decision-making and project progression. Oversee compound profiling activities conducted at CROs, critically appraising scientific quality, alignment with project objectives, and timely delivery. Who You Are: Degree coupled with in vitro pharmacological characterisation for small-molecule projects in a drug discovery environment, it is typical at this level that you would have at least 3 years’ relevant experience. Proven track record in designing, developing, executing, troubleshooting, and interpreting a broad range of biochemical, binding, and target engagement assays across multiple target classes, with practical experience in biophysical techniques considered advantageous. Experience collaborating with CROs to design and deliver compound profiling, assay development, assay transfer, and biophysical studies. Working knowledge of standard assay automation (e.g., liquid handling and plate-based workflows), data analysis tools, ELNs, and scientific databases to support compound profiling and assay development is desirable. Candidates with practical or applied experience with biophysical techniques (e.g., SPR, ITC, MST, BLI) to support compound profiling and drug discovery, including an understanding of protein-ligand interactions, binding kinetics, affinity, and thermodynamics would be highly desirable.
