Job Description:
Job Description Job Description Job Title: Media Relations
Specialist Job Title: Media Relations Specialist Reports To: Chief
Communications Officer FLSA Status: Exempt Position Summary Most
Americans identify the influence of big money in politics as the 1
threat to American self-government. American Promise is leading a
national campaign to advance an amendment to the U.S. Constitution
that restores the authority of states and Congress to set
reasonable limits on campaign money. American Promise seeks a Media
Relations Specialist to lead state-level communications and media
relations in support of legislative efforts, working closely with
state leaders and the partnerships team. Reporting to the Chief
Communications Officer, the Specialist will play a central role in
shaping state-level messaging, pitching stories, placing op-eds,
and securing press coverage for legislative wins and organizational
milestones. Ratifying this amendment requires supermajority support
from the American people and their elected representatives in both
Congress and the states. Achieving that support demands a
communications strategy that can reach, inspire, and mobilize
Americans across the political and ideological spectrum. Our
strategy is rooted in state-based momentum. To date, 23 states have
formally called on Congress to advance this amendment, or one like
it, with new efforts underway in Texas, Ohio, and beyond. This role
is an exciting opportunity for a skilled media professional to
build the organization’s profile across local, state, and national
levels. The Media Relations Specialist will join a small,

collaborates effectively across remote teams. Responsibilities Lead

state and regional audiences. Shape state-level messaging that
aligns with the national narrative and resonates across partisan
and ideological lines. Secure press coverage of organizational
milestones, legislative victories, and events. Monitor state media
coverage in target states and provide rapid response guidance as
needed. Collaborate with colleagues on integrated campaigns across
digital, social, and earned media channels. Support spokespersons
with media training, Q&A, and message development. Ensure
consistent alignment with organizational values and national
communications strategies while tailoring content for state
contexts. Serve as the CCO’s point of continuity for communications
when the CCO is unavailable, ensuring all earned, paid, and social
media outputs remain aligned, timely, and on-message.
Qualifications Required 4-8 years of experience in communications,
public relations, political campaigns, journalism, or related
fields. Proven track record of pitching and placing stories in
