Purpose of Position Responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating daily shift operations to ensure flow and quality patient care.Description

  • Works collaboratively with the patient care team to achieve the highest quality care, and best possible outcome for the patient.
  • Plans, organizes and manages nursing duties and provides leadership in complying with governmental, Accreditation and other regulations/requirements and with hospital policies.
  • Meets all Professional Competency Standards of Nursing Practice
  • Quality of Care - Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice in the Department.
  • Collegiality -Engages in activities and behaviors that characterize a professional.

  • Resource Utilization -Collaborates with other health care providers to deliver patient-centered care in a manner consistent with safe, efficient and cost-effective resource utilization.
  • Provides input into development and implementation of departmental policies/procedures, mission, and goals.
  • Liaison with patients and families who have interventional procedures at CCH.
  • Supports Physician offices by coordinating care for patients who require Interventional Imaging Services.
  • May participate in recruitment activities and staff orientation training.
  • Participates in the nursing care related to procedures, assessment, promotion, maintenance and restoration of patients' health and wellness.
  • Participates in the auditing and tracking of all medications and medical supplies/equipment including ensuring timely maintenance of all equipment.
  • Teams with manager to instill and reinforce QM principles throughout department and participates in audits and feedback to staff.
  • Responsible for monitoring patient flow and responding with the appropriate actions to expedite patients' throughput.

  • Collaborate with IR Radiologists to review all biopsy, abscess drainage and ablation requests. Once exam is approved, works with referring MD office to process and schedule procedure. (H + P, Labs, and current medications.)
  • Works and collaborates with the VNA and outside nursing facilities for any patients discharged from CCH with abscess drain in place and their need for follow-up care with IR.
  • Works with Radiology Management for review of new exams and procedures.
  • Educates Nursing staff on new and or changes in procedures.
  • Identifies CPT codes changes, additions, and deletions annually.
  • Completes required monthly audits.
  • Reviews current procedures and processes with IR and Diagnostic Radiologists to update as necessary.
  • Participates in nursing education programs related to specialty/unit population.
  • Performs other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers in a manner that reflects Cape Cod Hospital's commitment to CARES: compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and service. KNOWLEDGE: 1. Knowledge of current nursing practices and protocols 2. Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures and organizational goals 3 Knowledge of key concepts related to effective communication, delegation, problem-solving and conflict resolution techniques SKILLS: 1. Skill in appropriate assessment, examination, treatment techniques 2. Skill in QM, medication, infection control, safety and confidentiality policies by effectively role modeling appropriate behavior 3. Skill in leadership and mentoring ABILITIES: 1. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public 2. Ability to react calmly and competently in emergency situations 3. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, in writing, or by phoneQualifications
  • Graduation from an approved nursing education program. Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field or enrolled in an accredited program
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification required and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required
  • Successful passage of CCHC's Pharmacology Exam
  • Three to five years recent experience as a Charge Nurse or Preceptor
  • Must demonstrate leadership abilities. Must possess good oral and written communication skills
  • Three to five recent years of progressively responsible experience in Radiology
  • Two years of critical care experience within five years preferred
  • Use of lead apron is required
  • Assist with On-Call as needed for off-shift, weekend and holidays
  • Certified Radiology Nurse ("CRN") preferred
  • With all qualifications being considered, the final decision as to who is awarded the position will be heavily weighted toward the candidate with the most actual hands on patient care experience
