Job Description:
Position Description: Guides and directs team research projects focused on a wide
range of innovative inflation or commodity topics. Assists
portfolio managers and analysts across Fidelity, and Global Asset
Allocation in particular, to understand and interpret global
inflation and commodity trends. Primary Responsibilities: Understands, examines, and researches the interaction of growth
and inflation shocks on inflation resistant multi-asset class
portfolios to develop a robust inflation-playbook. Builds secular views of long-term inflation and commodity trends
based on demographics, monetary policy, and fundamental
analysis. Works with active asset allocation investment and research teams
to build both strategic and dynamic asset allocation
recommendations based on inflation and commodities work. Develops and manages mock investment portfolios that provide
clear asset allocation positioning recommendations for inflation
sensitive asset classes. Initiates timely and relevant ad hoc research pieces
highlighting important macro or market developments. Leverages market-based information and fundamental analysis to
inform commodity and inflation views. Provides systematic inflation, commodity, and energy signals on
a monthly basis, and collaborates with others within GAA to ensure
that they are incorporated into asset allocation portfolio
decisions. Works with strategic income product portfolio managers to
provide explicit fixed income portfolio investment
recommendations. Communicates research findings and investment views through
regular meetings, reports, emails, and one-on-one direct exchanges
with portfolio managers and analysts. Builds and maintains strong relationships with equity and fixed
income Portfolio Managers and analysts across the organization. Regularly discusses and presents inflation at internal
meetings. Presents details about research process and investment
conclusions to key external stakeholders, including sophisticated
institutional clients and investment consultants. Education and Experience: PhD (for foreign education equivalent) in Economics, Finance, or
a closely related quantitative field and two (2) years of
experience in the job offered or two (2) years of experience
performing econometric programming and modeling to estimate and
forecast inflation and commodity and trends. Or, alternatively, Masters degree (or foreign education
equivalent) in Economics, Finance, or a closely related
quantitative field and four (4) years of experience in the job
offered or four (4) years of experience performing econometric
programming and modeling to estimate and forecast inflation and
commodity and trends. Skills and Knowledge: Candidate must also possess: Demonstrated Expertise (DE) performing extraction and complex
time series analysis for economic and market data using EViews 9.5;
designing macroeconomic screening and portfolio construction
processes, using Haver Analytics and Bloomberg; and generating
visual insights, using software tools (Microsoft Excel and EViews
9.5). DE building fundamental econometric inflation component models,
using EViews 9.5 and commodity forecasting models based on the
analysis of macroeconomic factors -- interest rate environment,
business cycle conditions, foreign demand, and detailed movements
in drivers of oil and inflation markets. DE developing econometric models to quantify the impact of macro
events on movements in inflation, including housing, and motor
vehicle demand, currency movements and import prices, property
markets, and economic policy shifts. DE performing econometric programming and modeling to inform
fundamental equity research, including asset allocation --
