The Central Transportation Planning Staff of the Boston Region
Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) seeks a creative,
technical leader to manage the newly formed Data Management Group.
The Data Manager will oversee a team of data analysts and data
scientists charged with advancing agency-wide data management
initiatives with the goal of establishing and maintaining a healthy
data landscape for the Boston Region
MPO.ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities will include the
following:
- Lead the advancement of the agency's data management
practice.
- Supervise, develop, and mentor a team of data analysts and data
scientists.
- Create and maintain a multi-year data management strategy and
roadmap to support transportation planning projects, both in the
aggregate and individually.
- Manage and facilitate a data user group to support cross-team
collaboration on data-related topics.
- Contribute to the development of data principles and help
establish standards for how the agency acquires, manages,
processes, protects, and shares data.
- Review work plans, memos, reports, code, and other technical
material.
- Develop annual resource plans, set quarterly outcomes and
benchmarks, monitor progress, and ensureannual targets are
met.
- Collaborate with the management and leadership team to provide
input into agency operations and support the implementation of the
agency's strategic plan.QualificationsWhile the following sections

Required
- A master's degree in transportation, engineering, computer
science, mathematics, geography, business, or a related field, plus
at least two years people management experience; or a bachelor's
degree in the fields listed above, plus five years of people
management experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively, manage concurrent streams of
work, meet deadlines, and delegate tasks.
- Proficiency processing and visualizing geospatial data and a
strong understanding of spatial database management.
- An understanding of the fundamental principles of relational
databases and cloud-based computing services.
- Ability to understand, describe, and champion workflows,
hardware and software needs, and skills needed to conduct data
analysis.
- Software development experience including version control
(GitHub or other version control platforms) and understanding of

- Experience with Agile methodology.Compensation and BenefitsThis
a full-time position and the starting salary range is
$95,000-$115,000 annually, contingent upon qualifications and
experience. The agency offers excellent Massachusetts state

The Central Transportation Planning Staff of the Boston Region
Metropolitan Planning Organization is a public agency made up of a
passionate group of transportation planners, analysts, modelers,
programmers, and engineers working to address the Boston region's
transportation challenges. The agency's deep transportation
knowledge is an essential asset to the Massachusetts Department of
Transportation, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority
(MBTA), regional transit authorities, cities and towns within the
region, as well as other agencies and stakeholders.
The agency has a hybrid schedule, combining time in the office with
remote work. Employees must reside within a commutable distance
from the Central Transportation Planning Staff's office, which is
located in downtown Boston, in a transit-oriented and
bicycle-friendly area.
Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United
States and a valid driver's license and/or the ability to arrange
transportation to meetings in different parts of the region. A
Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check must be completed
if the position is offered. However, a criminal record is not an
automatic bar to employment.
