Staff work a hybrid schedule with 2 days/week in the office As a member of the Finance Team, the Staff Accountant supports the IFAW mission through timely and accurate execution of financial transactions, accounting and reporting. The Staff Accountant is a customer support oriented position that requires a high level of flexibility, proactivity, and responsiveness to dynamic business needs. The Staff Accountant is responsible for monitoring, recording and reconciling general ledger and sub ledgers in order to ensure completeness, accuracy and valuation of account balances. In addition, (s)he will provide support to other financial processes as needed. Role and Responsibilities General Accounting Maintain accurate sub ledgers and trial balances to support general ledger account balances. Prepare monthly general ledger journal entries to ensure completeness, accuracy and valuation of asset and liability balances, including cash, receivables, prepaid expenses, revaluations, capital assets, and accounts payable and accrued expenses. Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations for all Operations Center managed bank and revenue accounts. Maintain, monitor and reconcile schedules supporting intercompany transactions, including affiliated grants, cost sharing and expense reimbursement activities. Reconcile balance sheet assets and liabilities trial balances/sub ledgers to general ledger. Prepare schedules to support monthly and fiscal yearend closing and annual financial statement audits. Other financial processes Support worldwide corporate credit card programs. Provide as-needed support to payment processing for vendor setup, screening for jurisdictional sanctions listings, invoice entry and disbursement. Participate in the ongoing development and education of non-finance staff to support financial policies and best practices for payment processing. Contribute to team results by performing other tasks as requested by department managers. Qualifications and Education Requirements Four years bookkeeping and/or general accounting experience. Two-year degree in accounting or finance desirable. Advanced computer knowledge and expertise with Microsoft Office software required. Experience with financial software required, Unit4 ERP system knowledge desirable. Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail. Effective communication skills and ability to operate in a culturally diverse international organization.
